Free health screenings and confidential testing for HIV, STIs, Hep C, and more

Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, a community center on the city’s west side, is proud to host GYT: Get Yourself Tested, a community wellness event on Saturday, April 30th, 2016 from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Neighborhood House main site, 2819 W. Richardson Place.

The GYT: Get Yourself Tested event is free and open to the public and offers confidential testing for HIV, STIs, and Hep C; screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar; voter registration and voter ID assistance; children’s activities, and more.

Neighborhood House’s GYT collaborators include Greater Milwaukee Center for Health and Wellness, Diverse & Resilient, Walnut Way, Planned Parenthood of
Wisconsin, AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention & Poverty Network.

GYT: Get Yourself Tested is a national campaign that promotes sexual health and addresses the disproportionately high rates of STDs among young people. One in two sexually active young people in the U.S. will contract a sexually transmitted disease (STD) by the time they’re 25 – and most won’t know it, according to Planned Parenthood.

“When it comes to health, knowledge is power and knowing your status is the first step in taking care of yourself, particularly for young people,” says Neighborhood House Executive Director Jeff Martinka. “Testing is easy, free, non-invasive, and one of the most important things you can do to protect your health. We’re proud that Neighborhood House is taking the initiative to keep our community healthy.”
