Community Unity Day 2016- The 2nd annual Community Unity Day was an absolute blast, with Neighborhood House kids, families, and supporters coming together to celebrate another great year of serving Milwaukee’s Near West Side!
After a few words from Neighborhood House Executive Director, Jeff Martinka, SHARP Literacy President & CEO, Lynda Kohler, and SHARP Literacy Board Chair, Doug Erlacher, all were treated to the much-anticipated unveiling of the Garden Park’s newest addition: a beautiful mosaic bench created by artist Sally Duback with the help of Neighborhood House kids, in collaboration with SHARP Literacy.
The rest of the afternoon brought us dance performances from our teens, early childhood, and youth programs, a thrilling show put on by the talented (and high-flying!) gymnastics group The Milwaukee Flyers, archery lessons from the Wisconsin DNR, a Farmer’s Market run entirely by Neighborhood House teens, art activities, roller skating, and more.
Check out the pictures below for a glimpse of all the fun. We’re already looking forward to all that Community Unity Day 2017 has in store!
