Holiday Happiness!

“It’s all about the kids,” said Early Childhood Instructor Ms. Amelia. And if you were among the hundred or so who attended the Neighborhood House Holiday Pageant on December 19th, you saw them shine and heard them sing:

Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do
Because I’m happy!

In a rousing performance of “Happy” from Despicable Me, the children reminded us that even though “here come bad news talking this and that… I should probably warn you I’ll be just fine… because I’m happy.” That happiness was in the air at two huge parties  – one in the family lounge, and one at International Learning Center – where the holiday season was celebrated with music, games, shared food, friendship, and family time. In addition, families at our Community Learning Center came together at a special Math Night at Albert Story School.

Special thanks go out to staff and students who crafted memorable performances, and to generous community partners who made these celebrations even more special:

  • Family Dollar Stores in Milwaukee, for collecting toys and gift cards  which were distributed to children in attendance at their holiday pageant, and for a major donation.
  • Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Germantown, for donating hundreds of new, wrapped toys and household items for refugee families at International Learning Center.
  • United Way volunteers, for helping serve spaghetti dinner to Neighborhood House families.

Happy Holidays, and Peace and Good Will to All from the staff of Neighborhood House!
