Baseball Week 2016 brought former Brewer Larry Hisle, and more!

Though we’re nearing the end of the summer, the staff and kids at Neighborhood House have not been slowing down. In fact, the Neighborhood House kids just celebrated an action-packed week full of baseball fun. Baseball Week at Neighborhood House is an exciting time for the kids where they get to learn all about America’s favorite past time.

The week started off with a bang as the kids met with Milwaukee Brewer’s Manager of Youth Outreach and former Brewer’s outfielder (’78-’82), Larry Hisle. After a great career in baseball, Mr. Hisle now dedicates his life to mentoring youth all across Milwaukee, providing advice, guidance and support whenever possible. The kids had a great time listening to Mr. Hisle speak about his career as a professional athlete, and were inspired by his words encouraging them to work hard, stay focused, and follow their dreams.

Next on the agenda for Baseball Week was a tour of Miller Park, following by a skill-building session and practice at the West Allis Athletic Complex. The kids were give a behind-the-scenes look at Milwaukee’s beautiful and iconic baseball stadium, learning the ins and outs of how things are run during the busy baseball season. Later during their skill-building session, they were given the tips and tricks to hitting, catching, and throwing with the guidance of West Allis high school baseball coaches. These skills came in handy the next day when the kids took on Neighborhood House staff in a friendly game of ball. The Adult Crushers (NH kids) faced the Kid Crushers (NH staff) in an epic and exciting match! All had a great time getting in some physical activity while honing their skills.

Baseball Week also brought a fun afternoon out for a group of staff, kids, and their families who attended the Brewers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game. What better way to spend a beautiful day than at the ballpark with a hot dog in hand? The week’s festivities concluded with the viewing of a baseball movie.

Here’s to another great Baseball Week full of fun and active activities. Until next year!
